BOB COATES

I create artwork with many materials, including clay, bronze, mixed media, and found objects. Much of my inspiration comes from personal experiences, the environment, and cultures from around the world. My favorite piece is always the one I'm currently working on.​​

Community

• Co-Creator, Coordinator, Osborn Historic Garden Club biennial Garden Affair. Fund raiser and community outreach.  Showcases plant/garden vendors and visual artists whose focus is garden art. 2022, 2024, 2026

• Creator, Coordinator, En Plein Air Landscape Exhibition. Coordinated with B.-W. Greenway Community Land Trust, City of Fairborn and Fairborn Art Association.   The exhibition showcased City of Fairborn parks that B.W. had created.  The Fairborn Association hosted the annual exhibition in its gallery. 2009-2020

• Reach Conference, Sinclair College,  I developed break-out sessions that focused on community building, using art projects.   2009-2020

• Sinclair Student Art Sale, Creator, Coordinator, I developed the Student Art Sale to raise scholarship money for art students. I would glaze abandoned pottery from the ceramic room and sell them. I invited art students to run the sale and to sell their art. They would donate 20% of their sales for the college fund. I ran the sale for 15 years, raising over $40,000.00 for the fund.

• Designer Show House, Coordinator,  I am coordinating area artists to exhibit work at a cafe/gallery that is an extension of the Designer Show house. 2025

•   Leader, “The Artist Way”. 12 Week course at Unity of Dayton, 2024

•   Juror/Lecturer, Central State University, I juried the student show and awarded prizes.  Then gave a lecture on my “Direction of Evolution” about creativity and creating with multimedia. 2025

• Invited by the Springfield Museum of Art to create a new art piece using the ovoid shape.  I created a “Fertility Rattle” two and a half feet long.  Made out of ceramic, wood, bronze and leather.
